Atrial Fibrillation is an irregular heart beat which causes inefficient blood flow. Atrial fibrillation just gets worse over time if not treated (Afib gets more Afib). This due to the Atrial tissure changing substrate and becoming more scared. As this happens, it gets larger and is more prone to Afib. The SA node, or the pacemaker of the heart, quits on you so any patient with Afib needs to have a pacemaker implantation.
Ventricular Fibrillation is when the ventricles quiver instead of delivering a strong pump. This is lethal as the ventricles of the heart have to pump up against gravity. If the ventricles can't deliver a strong enough pump, the blood in the heart will never be able to get oxygenated, resulting in heart failure.
